Utah Carpet Flooring costs. This trade provides soft, affordable flooring for bedrooms, basements, stairs, and more. Still widely used in Utah new builds.

What’s Included:

Includes supply and installation of carpet and pad in designated areas. Pricing varies based on carpet fiber (polyester, nylon, wool), pile type (cut, loop, frieze), and density. Standard scope includes bedrooms, bonus rooms, closets, stairs, and basement areas unless otherwise specified. Bids often include mid-grade carpet and 6–8 lb pad.

Notes:

  • carpet + pad + labor to install in bedrooms, closets, stairs, and basements

Builder Tips:

  • Stair installation can drive up costs due to labor intensity — ask if stairs are priced separately. Frieze or textured carpet hides wear better in high-traffic areas. Confirm that all closet floors and finished basements are included in bid. In Utah, it’s common to use LVP in main areas and reserve carpet for bedrooms and lower levels.

Real World Example:

A 3,600 sq ft home with carpet in 4 bedrooms, closets, stairs, and 1,200 sq ft of finished basement:
  • Total carpeted area: ~2,200 sq ft

  • Mid-grade carpet + pad + install: $4.25/sq ft

  • Total: ~2,200 × $4.25 = $9,350

FAQ

Q: Can I upgrade carpet after closing?

A: Yes — but upgrading during the build avoids removing trim or doors later.

Q: Are stairs priced separately?

A: Often — stair labor can add $250–$500 per flight depending on shape and finish.

Q: What pad weight should I choose?

A: 6 lb is budget, 8 lb is standard, and 10 lb is premium. Denser pad improves feel and lifespan.

Q: Is carpet good for Utah basements?

A: Yes — as long as the basement is dry. It adds warmth and soundproofing.
