Builder Tips:

  • If your foundation has jogs, bump-outs, or porch wraps, pricing will increase. Concrete subcontractors often charge a minimum mobilization fee, so bundling jobs across a single pour day (e.g., footings + porch + retaining wall) can reduce total cost. Always verify wall height and steel spec with your engineer before pouring.

Real World Example:

A 4,200 sq ft home with a full basement on a sloped lot used a foundation layout with partial jogs and a rear covered porch. The mid-tier complexity rate of $16/sq ft applied to the full basement footprint (2,100 sq ft), resulting in a cost of:
  • 2,100 sq ft × $16 = $33,600 for footings and foundation walls.

FAQ

Q: How thick are typical footings?

A: Standard footings are 18"–24" wide and 8"–12" thick, depending on engineering.

Q: Can I use ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms)?

A: Yes, but pricing will be significantly higher. Make sure your budget reflects this.

Q: Do I need rebar in foundation walls?

A: Yes. Vertical and horizontal rebar are standard. Some municipalities also require inspection before the pour.

Q: What’s the typical lead time?

A: Expect 1–2 weeks from excavation to pour, but delays can happen due to weather or inspections.
