Siding
Utah Siding, Shingles, Hardiboard costs. This cladding protects your home from the elements and defines its architectural style, from Cape Cod lap to modern panel systems.
What’s Included
Includes installation of exterior siding materials: fiber cement (e.g., Hardie), engineered wood (e.g., LP SmartSide), vinyl, or composite panels. Includes house wrap, trim boards, caulking, and fasteners. Does not include painting unless bundled. Siding is typically priced per square foot of wall surface, with adjustments for gables, soffits, and overhangs.
Notes:
Includes: supply + install of siding, standard trim, flashing, and wrap
Builder Tips:
Confirm if your siding contractor also paints the product — many require separate painting crews. On two-tone or mixed-exterior homes (e.g., siding and stone), clarify termination details. In Utah, fiber cement is common for durability and fire resistance, especially in wildfire-prone foothill zones. Lap siding is cheaper than panel systems but takes longer to install.
Real World Example:
A 4,200 sq ft home with 3,200 sq ft of exterior wall area clad in fiber cement lap:
Installed cost: $9.50–$12.00/sq ft (labor + material)
Total: 3,200 × $10.50 = $33,600
Add ~$1,200 for painted corner trim and belly board
FAQ
Q: Does this include house wrap?
A: Yes — WRB (weather-resistant barrier) is typically installed beneath siding.
Q: What’s the difference between Hardie and LP SmartSide?
A: Hardie is fiber cement (more fire- and pest-resistant), LP is engineered wood (lighter and faster to install).
Q: Is painting included?
A: Not always. Some contractors bundle it in, others leave it for the painting crew.
Q: What about vented soffits and fascia?
A: Typically handled by siding crews, but confirm scope if you have complex overhangs.
