Builder Tips:

  • Quartz is preferred in Utah due to durability and minimal maintenance — especially in dry climates. Don’t forget backsplash — 4” splash is standard, full-height is an upgrade. Fabrication takes 2–3 weeks after cabinets are set. Plan plumbing trim-out accordingly. Select colors early to avoid delays — white veined quartz is most popular in Utah builds.

Real World Example:

A 4,800 sq ft home with kitchen, large island, 5 bath vanities, and laundry tops:
  • Mid-tier quartz: $65–$85/sq ft installed

  • Total linear footage: ~140 sq ft

  • Total: ~140 × $75 = $10,500 for full countertop package

FAQ

Q: What’s the difference between quartz and granite?

A: Quartz is engineered, non-porous, and more consistent in pattern. Granite is a natural stone and may require sealing.

Q: Is installation included?

A: Yes — bids typically include template, fabrication, and install.

Q: What about sinks and faucets?

A: Most installers do the cutouts for undermount sinks and faucet holes. Plumbers set the fixtures.

Q: Can I do a waterfall edge on my island?

A: Yes — but it’s usually priced separately and adds $1,000–$2,000 depending on slab size.

Q: What edge profiles are standard?

A: Eased, beveled, and bullnose are the most common. More decorative edges cost more.

Q: What’s trending in Utah homes?

A: White quartz with subtle gray veining is the most common in new builds. Bold marble looks and matte finishes are also rising.
