Builder Tips:

  • Make sure your trim carpenter gets final flooring heights for perfect baseboard reveal. Ask if your bid includes caulking and sanding before paint. Stain-grade wood needs to be handled early — material lead times can be 3–6 weeks. Coffered ceilings, beam wraps, and accent walls can add thousands — ask for line-item pricing.

Real World Example:

A 4,200 sq ft home with 5” baseboards, 3” casing, and one feature wall:
  • Painted MDF: $6.00–$7.00 per finished sq ft

  • Stain-grade upgrade: $8.00–$10.00/sq ft

  • Total: 4,200 × $6.50 = $27,300 for mid-range package

FAQ

Q: Does millwork include stair trim?

A: Typically the interior painter after install. Some millwork crews pre-prime in shop.
